Can anyone help I am currently running 10.6.8 and need to upgrade to 10.9.5 Mavericks to run some new software for work. I know I can download el captain for free but most of my applications are not supported on that OS. I see you can still buy Lion but nothing for Mavericks.

If you previously got it from the Mac App Store, log into it with the same Apple ID and click on the Purchases tab. If not, go to a physical Apple Store and ask.

Ok thanks I ask at App store just don't understand why I cant buy it online, very odd.
Please be aware that older versions of OS X can be more vulnerable to security threats. A new one just popped up that (theoretically) could affect all versions below 10.11.6.
Maybe but my applications dictate my operating system, there is not much I can do about it but take the risk unfortunately.
OK, fair enough. For future reference: it is always a good idea to "purchase" each and every major update of OS X, even when you don't plan to use it immediately. That way, you can always install it at a later date, when it might not be available anymore.
