VNC viewer
Does El Capitan have a builtin VNC viewer that can be started in listening mode on port 5500?

Have you looked into Screen Sharing which can be enabled via System Preferences / Sharing? When enabled, any Mac on the same network will see Screen Sharing Macs in Finder.
I have folks who I help on non-apple computers and it's easier to support them if they use VNC on their machines and issue a reverse connection to VNC on my windows machine.
I'd like to know what options there are for them to target their VNC to my VNC running on my MacBook or iMac.
I know there are third party VNC viewers but I'd like to explore any apple option first.
An apple article is there : OS X Yosemite: Share your screen
Thanks but these are for typical screen sharing options.
What I'm hoping is that if there is a builtin VNC viewer I can invoke it from probably Terminal using a command
like VNC -listen
Not for what you want to do.
I would suggest using TeamViewer.com. Assuming this is for personal use, and not a business use, it is free.
TeamViewer.com is cross platform, works across home routers, and provides encrypted connections.
