Q: Print using air print

Hi Everyone.

In work I have a Samsung Printer model name m4070fr & wish to print from my iPad. Only problem I have is that the printer is connected to a network via an Ethernet cable & the printer has been set up for a wired network. Therefore I am unable to connect to the printer wirelessly in order to use AirPrint. The printer has AirPrint compatibility enabled however I am aware you need to be connected to the same network in order for the iPad to detect the printer.

So I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what I can do in order to connect to the network & print using AirPrint on my iPad. If I were to connect a router to the network & connect ipad to that would the iPad detect the printer or I have researched the internet & found out you can connect iPad to a network using an Ethernet cable however this method does require a number of cables etc.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I can confirm the printer is AirPrint compatible as I have accessed the settings within the printer & enabled it. It states it is activated however as my iPad is not connected to the same network as the printer due to it being on a wired network it doesn't detect it. So was wondering if there was any way of connecting my iPad to the network so it will detect it.

On the App Store there's Printer Pro and Printer Pro Lite.  The Lite is free, and enables you to check compatibility with your printer, and then if it works, you can purchase the full version. It costs £3.99, but will connect to many wi-fi printers, and to any printer connected to your Mac (by ethernet), so it may be worth a try.

I have already tried that app however it won't detect the printer as the printer is connected via a wired network & my iPad isn't connected to the same network. I have researched about the printer & it does support wireless capabiliy however it has been installed to work with a wired network via an Ethernet cable. Therefore the wireless facility on the printer is not enabled & wont work unless it's set up to work wirelessly & there is no way to set up to work via Ethernet & wireless at the same time. I know a MAC can find a printer via with an Ethernet cable so was just wondering if an iPad would detect a printer through an Ethernet cable. I have researched the internet & found a way to connect ipad to internet via an Ethernet cable so just wondered if doing this to the same network the printer is connected to that if it would detect printer on air print.

It will not work if your printer is connected via a wired connection. You need to connect your printer via the WiFi network the iPad is connected to.
