Q: How do I get the Russians out of my iphone?

Hi guys, I've been using iphone for around 6 years now and never noticed anything unusual with my accounts. Yesterday I purchased a brand new iphone SE. I was setting it up through icloud backup so I could get all of the previous settings from my old phone, I logged in with my normal icloud details which worked fine, but when it got to the stage where it asks for you to log in for the app store and purchases it had an email address that didn't belong to me "**********@rambler.ru" and was asking for the password to the account that matches this email address. I skipped that step and the next page (i can't remember what it was but it was a similar log in page) come up asking for a password for a different email address again also a rumbler.ru address.

I stopped the backup there, then went back through my old iphone settings and my online account but couldn't find anything in my accounts that had these email addresses. I restarted the backup on my new phone, this time it went through fine with all of my own email addresses for the accounts.

Just now I had a pop up on the new phone saying "Sign in to iTunes store, enter the password for your apple ID so these IDs are still in there somewhere...

Has anyone had this happen before? Any ideas if they have got into my accounts and how to get rid of them? I don't think they have got into my accounts - my password wasn't changed and nothing has been purchased from the itunes store without me knowing...

Thanks

    Two choices

    1. Preferable - take the phone back and ask for replacement as it would appear to have been a pre owned one

    2. Follow these instructions to restore to Factory settings and try the iCloud restore again

You will need to plug up your iphone to a computer and wipe the phone to factory settings as suggested to eliminate the user ID added by someone who is not you or visit an Apple Store for a wipe service help.

I dont think that's whats going on here.

It sounds like she's restoring from a backup and its asking for accounts tied her backup.

Replacing the phone will not make a difference.

Those email addresses are attached to that backup.

Ive seen cases where the drm for sideloaded apps and music have triggered needing to login with other itunes accounts.

    To the OP...

Just hit skip when those emails pop up.  You wont see them again. (Because it wont restore any data tied to those accounts.

Thanks for the replies. It's a brand new iphone so I think it must be something tied to my account, not the phone itself. I have called Apple support and they say these email addresses arn't listed any where in my account details. They were pretty baffled by it.

I tried pressing skip as Bryan suggested, which lets me finish the backup, but I still get notifications to log in to itunes using the rambler.ru email address, not my own, so I can't use itunes at all.

I'm going to try resetting the phone and starting it up as a brand new one, to check that whatever causing this isn't on the phone itself. Then try my backup again. If that's no good is my only option to start from scratch?

Try Recovery Mode (or alternatively a System Restore). The reset linked above does not install a fresh iOS and it is not the same as what I linked at bottom.

Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes.

While your device is connected, force restart it: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, and don't release when you see the Apple logo.

Keep holding until you see the recovery mode screen and wait for it to restore.

You may have to do the above more than once as recovery mode is difficult to get into.

Restore as New first and test it. Then restore from the backup. If after using the backup the email addresses show up again your only choice is to repeat as New again.

So I reset it as a new phone, the rambler accounts were gone, then reset it using my backup and the accounts are back. It is strange that they arn't listed anywhere in my apple id records though, just somewhere in the backup...

I have worked out that if I connect my phone to my computer, that I can put my apple id and password in through that and log in normally without the rambler account popping up. Is it worth just working around these rambler accounts? As in, they arn't logged in so shouldn't be able to do any damage? Or should I restart as a new phone and try to work out how to copy over my photos, music, messages etc?

I've got 2 step vertification turned on so I should be able to tell if anyone is trying to log in yes?

The junk email accounts are in your backup, you know that for sure now. If it was me, with a brand new phone, I would restore it as new and then sync the music and photos back. Your messages will likely be gone. I would not put up with those accounts, they would be an irritant and no telling what else they may be doing.

I would import (not backup) your photos to your computer and then sync them to your phone. Alternatively you could use iCloud Photo Library. Your music should be easy but getting it back depends on the source.
