Q: checking itunes library

Itunes doesn't start, it only show a pop up window with the text "checking Itunes Library...". Tried restart, but no use. Any idea what to do?

MacBook (13-inch Aluminum Late 2008), OS X Yosemite (10.10)

"Checking iTunes library" may take a considerable time, are you sure that you have given enough time for it to complete.
