Rename Filename Photos to Title

Hi guys,

I would like to write an automator script that will take an event or selected images in "Photos" and rename the filename to the Title of the Event with an incremented number.

I have seen a lot of scripts to change title to filename but i want to do it the other way around and name the filename based on the event name.

For example I have an event called 20160718.Transylvania and my photos in that event have a filename of DSC_6969.NEF, DSC_6970.NEF. I want the filename(s) to be changed to 20160718.Transylvania.001, 20160718.Transylvania.002 etc.

Can any one advise if this is possible and some tips on how to go about it.

Thanks

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Changing the filename of the original image file is not directly scriptable in Photos. The filename is read-only.

It could be done in Aperture, but not in Photos.

It is more restrictive. As a work-around export the photos in question from Photos with a file naming preset that will write the title to the filename, then delete the originals from Photos completely, even empty the "Recently Deleted" album.

Now reimport the renamed files.

The only way to rename the actual file name of an image file in the Photos library is to put the name you want to use in the Title field under the thumbnail or in the Info pane for that photo and then export the file to a folder on your hard drive with the option to use the Title as the new file name.

To batch change the title to whatever you want you can use one of these Applescripts from the Photos for Mac User Tips section:

Script: Batch Change the Titles to a Given String

Batch Change Title to Text w/Padded Sequential No.

Batch Change Title to Capture Date-Description-Padded Sequential Number

You can download a compiled version of the scripts as an application from this tutorial site: P01 - Applescripts from Photos’ User Tips Compiled as Applications

Lastly when you need to use the image file with the new name export it out of Photos as described previously.

1 - Photos has no events

2 - you can not change the file names in Photos (or iPhoto for that matter) and never have been able to

3 - there is a script to set the title to the file name Script: Changing the Title to the Filename without Extension or to an arbitrary string - Script: Batch Change the Titles to a Given String - Old toad has compiled selected scripts into applications - http://www.oldtoadstutorials.net/No.P01.html

4 - when you export there is an option to use the moments name as the subfolder structure and to use the title as the file name
