Q: How to open ducuments with the same program every time ?

Hi

I have downloaded a designing program called Silhouette Studio.

How do i open my ducuments with this program every time I open a Silhouette document ?

I have already tried to change the settings for these documents so they always will open with the Silhouette Studio program, but i does´t work. When "Finder" ask if I want to use this program to all same documents, it removes the Silhouette Studio program as an option, so I have to do it all over again, but with the same result.

I can open a ducument with the Silhouette Studio program if I tell with program it shall open with the Silhouette Studio program, but i have to do that every time I open one of these documents.

I hope you understand my question despite my bad english.

    1. right click the file > select Get Info
    2. in the open with dropdown menu;   select the required application in the list, if it is not listed. click on "Other"
    3. click on the Change All button

Thank you for your reply but that´s what i have been trying to do but with no luck.

When i press the Change All button I´m asked if I want to use the same program to open all similar document with. When I press the Yes button to this, I´m returned to the window where I´d just selected the program, but it´s now changed back to no program, so I have to select the program again. This only happens when I press the Change All button.

How do I know if the application is installed correctly ?

Once I had downloaded the application I went to the Downloaded folder and drag the Silhouette Studio in to the Applications folder to install it. But I don´t know if it´s correctly installed in the Application folder. But the program works just fine.

Although the problem is not the same, please follow the instructions in this support article to reset the Launch Services database.

Instead of typing the command as directed in the article, I suggest that you copy and paste it from the web page into the Terminal window. Make sure you select the whole line before copying. One way to do that is to triple-click anywhere in the line.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before proceeding. You may have to log out or restart to see a change.
