    Hi

When miles have been selected as the unit of measurement, it is normal for distances of less than 0.1 mile to be expressed in feet.

Once you have travelled at least 528 feet, the watch automatically switches to stating the distance in miles (528 feet is 0.1 mile).

I thought that as well.   But rode 32 miles today and the app didn't track any distance.  Worked well on Tuesday, but not today.

Check that Wrist Detection is turned on:

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wrist Detection.

If Passcode is enabled, check also that you are unlocking your watch after placing it on your wrist.

Tracking can be affected if your watch loses contact with your skin, causing it to believe that it has been removed from your wrist. This would cause the Workout app to pause automatically.

A loose fitting band can trigger this by allowing your watch to lift from your wrist and/or by allowing clothing (for example, the end of a sleeve) to slip beneath the back of the watch. Sensor performance can also be affected by temporary or permanent changes to your skin, such as some wrist tattoos.

During exercise, Apple Watch should be worn snugly on the top of your wrist. Apple suggests that you consider tightening your band before workouts and loosening it again afterwards. Better contact with your wrist may also improve heart rate sensor performance during your workout.

Workouts may also be paused or ended early due to accidental interactions with your watch's screen (including by clothing). To help prevent this, you can lock the screen:

    • At any time after starting a workout, press firmly on the display and tap on Lock.
    • When you are ready to end the workout, press firmly again and first tap on Unlock.

If you have not yet done so, it may also help to update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

If tracking a cycling workout, be sure to record the activity via the Workout app as an Outdoor Cycle or Indoor Cycle workout.

When cycling outdoors, if you also take your iPhone along (with Location Services and Bluetooth enabled), your watch can use GPS data from the iPhone when estimating distance.

More generally, note that activity-related estimations also depend on your personal information. To check that this is accurate:

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Health > Edit - tap and adjust items, then tap on Done.

During general daily wear and when your iPhone is not taken along on certain outdoor workouts, the Activity app relies on your arm motion (measured by the accelerometer) to track movement. For the best results, allow the arm on which you are wearing your watch to swing naturally as you move around and during workouts (where relevant to the activity).

Calibrating your watch can improve the accuracy of various estimations made by the Activity app and Workout app, including walking and running distances when the iPhone is not also taken along.
