Q: iPad facetime / imessage not working

I have been using FaceTime and iMessage for many years on my iPad.  Sometime yesterday both quit working.  I cannot make a FT call (to my iPhone or internationally).  All calls will not 'ring' while calling and then the message 'FaceTime unavailable' is displayed under called name.  Messages sent get a 'Not Delivered'

Wifi is connected (email and websites work fine).  I reset networking on the iPad (also hard power off/on) as well as power off/on the modem and AirPort wifi.  As a test, I connected the iPad wifi to the 'hotspot' on my iPhone (which is connected to the same wifi) and that worked great.  But connected thru the normal home wifi neither app works.  Both my iPhone and my wife's FT & iMessage work fine using the same home wifi.

I need to correct the above message regarding the 'hotspot' connection via home wifi.  When I connect the ipad to the hotspot, the iphone automatically connects to the cellular network (with wifi turned off).  Then changing the iphone back to wifi home network will disconnect the hotspot connection to the iPad.  I sorry for that confusion.  Both iPhones still FT & iMessage using the home wifi with no problem.  It is just the 2 iPad apps that do not work using home wifi.

After discussions with Apple support, they advised me to check w/my internet provider about 'ports' being closed.  When I called tech support, they advised me that all ports are automatically open.  However, the tech advised me that the DNS server on the iPad had to be changed and set to 8.8.8.8.  Bingo!!!  everything works fine now on the iPad.  Case closed
