Sharing FLAC files between music apps on iPod touch?

I would like to put FLAC music files on my iPod touch in such a way that I can play the same music in different apps to compare the apps.

iTunes lets you move files onto an iPod in such a way that those files belong to a certain app. But with larger FLAC music files I don't want to load a copy of tuneX into both appA and appB - would take up a lot of disk space.

Looking for a way to put a FLAC file in a location where it can be seen by two apps.

The music apps I have for this check the Apple Music library, but iTunes doesn't want to import FLAC and I don't want to convert the files.

Any simple suggestions for someone who is relatively new to iOS would be welcome. Thanks!

iPod touch, iOS 9.3.3
