    Hi shuwalows,

I understand that the messages you read on one device are being marked as such on all of them. I know it's important to be in control of your data, so I'm happy to provide some information regarding this.

It sounds as though the email service you have is using the IMAP protocol. This means that all of the messages are stored on the mail provider's servers, and so any changes made to them reflect across all devices connected to that account. If you did not experience this before, then you were previously using POP, which instead downloads the messages to the devices individually.

To change this, you would want to talk to your email provider to see if they still support POP. You can see more about the server settings you may need from them (as well as an explanation of IMAP at the bottom of the page) in this article:

Mail settings you might need from your email provider - Apple Support

This should clarify things for you! Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, cheers!

Clarification question - do the e-mails not show up on the Mac or do they not show as read?
