Q: Why does AirDrop between Mac and iPhone require iPhone 5? Downer!

So Apple recently began to publish very technical details to OS X software updates, as shown here.

I think my question merits an answer seeing that my iPhone 4s handles the latest iOS and as a programmer/product manager I can't see any obstacles other than bluetooth bandwidth may be slower.

BTW, PS I think its unwise or at the least foolish that Apple would post sensitive details about security updates.

Because it requires Bluetooth support that was not present in the 4S. That's why.

My iPhone 4S has Bluetooth, my Mac has bluetooth.

    iMac (24-inch, Early 2009)

    OS X El Capitan 10.11.5 (15F34)

    What is your answer?

To this day, Airdrop is only supported on iPhone 5 and above. We're talking about using Airdrop today not when iPhone 4S came out. I've resorted so far to a third party app realizing Apple is throwing away thousands of dollars paying their employees while carelessly promoting multiple software apps that dont work in accord.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for improvement. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.

Or apple is making Billions of dollars selling new items to consumers who will shell out for new hardware anytime something shiny comes out of Cupertino. I'm guessing since it's the most profitable business in history that only sells six items that my guess is closer to the truth.
