Q: system profiler crash

Hello, I got frequent system profiler crashes, I got here the report from latest system profiler crash few minutes ago: http://pastebin.com/YUMeJYNG

Sometimes I press ok and a new windows of system profiler crash report pops out... any idea?

Also when I go to Apple menu then "About this mac" I got a system profiler crash again: http://pastebin.com/SUSzEL4U

Both are similar, only some numbers and hex are different: https://www.diffchecker.com/6dvksc85

Thanks

You have a point, I have a samsung s5 connected, a gaming mouse, two external hard disks and a printer but the key point here (and I just realised it) is that I have also connected this item (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Port-USB-3-0-ExpressCard-34-Adapter-MacBook-Pro-15-17- OSX-Native-Supported-/252359610184?hash=…) which I bought sine November 2015, it says that it has native support and so far so good I have no issues by using this express card in order for me to have USB 3 support but indeed maybe this cause the system profiler crash, I will try to remove the card and see how it goes, if the card is an issue then I prefer to stick with system profiler crashes

Remove them all - reboot, retest.

         If it works…

Connect 1/2 of the devices - reboot, retest.

         If it works…

Connect the other 1/2 of the devices - reboot, retest.

Rinse & repeat until you find a combination that works or a device that doesn't ever work.

Rebooting is important to unload any kexts that are loaded when the device is connected (or at least in my old school understanding of OS X).

After about a month of testing and since I'm abroad and not home I have two weeks now my macbook without connecting anything into usb ports but the system profiler crashes are still here... usually I get system profiler crashes when an application crash and after the crash of application I got several system profiler crashes as well.

A guarantee system profiler crash is when I got to "About this mac"

    most recent crash today: http://pastebin.com/APYsEG1Y

Yesterday I boot my computer into recovery run disk utility and run first aid on disk to repair any issues, after than I did a SMC reset and a PRAM reset, shutdown my computer, today I turn my computer on and out of curiosity I just tried to check if I'll get the system profiler crash again so I click on Apple menu then "About this mac" and I got the above crash...

seriously not sure what else I can do...

Reviewing this post one thing you said concerns me…

    panosru wrote:

The thing is that if any app crashes system profiler crashes also, or if I force quit an app that stuck system profiler crashes, but all these happens in random times, there isn't any obvious pattern that I can follow in order to reproduce it

Are you getting frequent crashes in other apps or often having to force quit other processes?

This is a model that is out of warranty now but you can still visit an Apple store if you are stuck knowing how to resolve the issue. Backup before you go (make a full bootable clone), so the store can reinstall OS X if they need to do so.

You can do some of the tests yourself, such as…

Turn off all networking, wifi & bluetooth & retest.

Try another user account (make one in System Preferences > Users & groups if needed).

Boot to safe mode & retest.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

Note: many features will be disabled or slow in safe mode, just test as much as possible.

Run Apple hardware test to see if the Mac has any issues that can be detected.

Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support

Run the extended & standard tests in 'loop mode' (hit cmd+L to enable).

Check your RAM via rember in addition to AHT…

    http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/

Record any error codes in those tests, search for them and post them here.

Try to rule out your installed software by backing up, erasing & reinstalling the OS. Test again.

Another option is installing to an external disk & boot from that to see if the internal has issues.

You can also reinstall OS X 'over the top' to restore the system files to the correct state but that may not make any difference unless you have actual data corruption - the OS should already handle that anyway.

You can also stick around here & hope someone can diagnose the crash logs but personally I don't know what most of it is. There may be logs that could help too but I'm unsure where you should start since I'm not on 10.11.

Try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. My list was to help you see there is more you can do

There are a few items I don't recognise in your report, I have to wonder if they may be involved in some way.

You have 42 hosts defined in /etc/hosts, do you know why & what these do?

Some malware can create these or it could be from other junk software that is trying to alter how certain websites/ IP's behave.

DrCleaner.app seems dubious to me - I don't use cleaners or third party tools that try to enhance, clean or otherwise tweak the OS. OS X can normally take care of itself.

I don't know about choosy, realtek's wifi driver and the android drivers.

Personally I'd ensure the third party softwares are all up to date & then consider ways to test without them in the equation e.g. safe mode disables third party extensions & booting to another OS will show the OS without these additions.

Logging in as another new user will show the OS without your login items. Alternatively you can logout, enter your login password & hold shift as you login, hold it until the Desktop appears & is usable. That will also disable login items - retest to see if system_profiler dies again. Logout to reuse the login items.

My suspicion is software so far but it is still worth running a hardware test when you have time.

See what others say about your report too.
