Q: How to fix FCPX 4K editing freezes system
PLEAS HELP!
Only when editing 4K up to adding transition, red square pixels appear all over the screen and system freezes. Now every time I try to edit, it does the same thing.
Reboot the system and all over programs work fine, even back up system for over 10 hours with no problem. As long as I don't go into FCPX. It seems to be a 4K editing REM overflow problem. Tech support advised to hold on Command+Option+P+R to reset NVREM. It did not help.
Someone please help! I am almost done with my 2 hour 4K slideshow, but can not continue to finish it.
Thank you very much in advance!
iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), Final Cut Pro X 10.2.3

4K is useless overhead unless you have a predetermined and pre-tested reason to produce in 4K: How are you going to deliver or show this thing? Most 4K newbies cannot answer that question.
A DSLR jpg image can be 5000x8000 pixels. "4K" is roughly 3800x2200 pixels so your jpegs are about four times as dense as they need to be. That's a lot of work being done by the graphics card and the dedicated CPU hardware circuitry. (I'm not pretending to understand how FCPX uses the iMac to process jpegs. Tom Wolsky seems to know.) It's probably not the iMac's RAM but the VRAM on the graphics card that may be limiting your performance with the big images.
