Q: Can I force Apple TV 4 to connect with 802.11ac Airport extreme even if 802.11n Airport Extreme is closer?

Can I force Apple TV 4 to connect with 802.11ac Airport extreme even if 802.11n Airport Extreme is closer?

I have a new Airport Extreme (802.11ac) upstairs running in bridge mode connected to my ATT Uverse router. I wirelessly extend the network with an older Extreme (802.11n). My new AppleTv 4 keeps using the slower closer Airport. Is there a way to force the AppleTV 4 to use the new 802.11ac router?

Thanks for the help.

Hi, 802.11n should be fast enough for anything ATV is streaming. Obviously, if the entire network has a common SSID, ATV cannot even tell which AP it's connecting to, and it will select the strongest signal. You could try giving the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks different SSIDs and only repeat one of them using the repeater. Then configure ATV to connect to the non-repeated network. However, I think the correct answer here is that you shouldn't mix and match, so you ought to upgrade your repeater.
