Q: itunes won't recognize or restore iphone 5s

Last Monday iTunes stopped recognizing my iPhone 5s when I plug it in to my PC. This also means it won't connect on wifi to my iPad for hand-off usage.

I've tried reinstalling iTunes and updating both iTunes and the phone. I also tried to restore the phone but iTunes wouldn't even recognize it in recovery mode. I tried resetting network settings and nothing has worked.

I don't want to take it to my local authorized service dealer because one of the guys there messed up my old iPhone 5 and got it set up on the wrong carrier after giving me 2 messed up phones under warranty.

Would erase all content and settings fix this or am I just stuck with a phone that won't work with my other devices?
