Q: HELP!!! Cannot install windows7 on my mid 2013 macbook air

I am trying to install windows7 on my mid 2013 macbook air with 10.11.5 system. I purchased windows 7 professional 64 iso from amazon, the seller sent me a download link and a key, and i downloaded boot camp 5 (downed from Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support).

I formatted my usb flash drive to FAT, since the windows7 is already a iso,  i just putted the Boot Camp 5 and windows7 iso in the flash drive, then i opened the Boot Camp Assistant and checked the last two boxes, then this is where i have trouble with, after awhile , the computer showing "The installer disc could not be found." and "boot cam assistant is trying to add a new helper tool. type your password to allow this."

i am so frustrating with this issue, please help me!!!!!!!!

OK, you do not need to manually put the .iso file onto the flash drive. Move it to your desktop for now.

Then open up Boot Camp Assistant. You do not need the last option unless you already have Windows installed. Just select the first two options. Then follow the procedures on this page: Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support

It will prompt you to select the .iso file and then the Boot Camp Assistant will place the .iso file and the support software on the flash drive for you.

The install hasn't failed. Click "Open Website", it should bring you to the website where you downloaded the Windows support software before. If you still have those files then you can just close the website. If you still need to download them, then you can download it on that page.

Once you have the support software, you should unzip it by double clicking on it. Then drag the files onto your USB flash drive and click yes when prompted to replace files.

Just continue to follow the prompts in Boot Camp Assistant.

Once it has copied over the Windows files to the flash drive, you need to get the Windows Support Software that you downloaded. Unzip it by double clicking on it. Drag all of those unzipped files onto the flash drive and click "Yes" when it asks if you want to replace files.

Then open up Boot Camp Assistant again and when it shows 3 different options, you only need the last one, "Install Windows". Then it will help you setup a partition and guide you through the rest of the steps. Just a word of warning, make sure you really think through the size of the partition based on all the things you will need to install in Windows because the partition is not easily resizable.

Did you follow the steps in the link you have provided? Look at step 11.

Perform a new install of Windows 7

Use these steps if you're installing Windows 7 on your Mac for the first time.

    1. Start up your Mac in OS X.
    2. Use the tables at the end of this article to make sure you have a Mac that supports the version of Windows you're installing.
    3. If your copy of Windows came on a DVD, you might need to create a disk image of it to work with Boot Camp.
    4. Connect a 16 GB or larger USB flash drive that you can erase. Leave this flash drive connected to your Mac until Windows installation is finished.
    5. Open Boot  Camp Assistant from the Utilities folder (or use Spotlight to find it) and click Continue.
    6. Select only the options to create a Windows install disk and to download the latest Windows support software from Apple. Then click Continue.
    7. Insert your Windows install disc, or choose your Windows installation ISO, then click Continue. Boot Camp erases your USB flash drive and prepares it for Windows installation. When you see "Download Support Software for Windows 7", close the Boot Camp Assistant window to quit the app.
    8. Use the tables at the end of this article to find the Windows support software (drivers) you need for the version of Windows and the Mac that you're using.
    9. Click the link in the table to download the related software.
    10. After the file downloads, double-click it from the Finder to decompress (unzip) it.
    11. Open the resulting folder. Locate the following files in this folder and drag them to your USB Flash drive. When prompted if you want to replace the existing items on the flash drive, click Yes:

      $WinPEDriver$ (folder)
      AutoUnattend.xml
      BootCamp (folder)

    12. Open Boot Camp Assistant again, then click Continue.
    13. Select only the option to "Install Windows… or later version."
    14. Click Install, then follow the onscreen prompts to repartition your drive and install Windows.
    15. When you complete the assistant, your Mac restarts to the Windows installer. When you're asked where you want to install Windows, select the BOOTCAMP partition, then click Drive Options and format your Boot Camp partition.
    16. Follow the onscreen prompts to finish installing Windows.
