MacBook Pro Paint Being Eaten?

The paint on my palm rest is... well, looks like it's being eaten. Words can't really describe it, so here's a few photos.

It's also beginning on the right palm rest too. In almost the exact same spot.

I don't wear anything on my wrists, no one uses my laptop except me... What's going on?!

Dude I feel your pain. That almost hurts looking at that.

A couple of questions to think about.

what kind of work (if industrial) or hobbies (if finishing, furnishing, building) do you do?
Is there a cream of some kind or gel that you wear on your hands? Or better yet an emollient on the sleeves of a sweater or jacket that you remember using while working on your mac book pro?

Sorry if this sounds asinine, but I'm a noob her and was just thinking of a few things.

Nothing industrial, just web work which I do on the laptop. No hobbies that involve harsh chemicals here.

No, just Hand Soap. Nothing that I can recall.

I'm going to give a ring to AppleCare tomorrow (I'm certainly not brave enough to brave the Mall during the Holiday season, especially the Apple Store.) and see what they say.

I had this same issue. I went to the local Apple retail store and had a genius look at it. He said it wasn't normal, but because it was cosmetic he couldn't fix it under warranty and told me to call AppleCare. I did right after getting home. I spoke to the first person and she was at a loss to what was happening to my computer, because it's CORROSION and if I'm not mistaken this laptop is made of aluminum which only reacts with mercury or specific conditions. Needless to say she put me on hold and an hour and a half later I spoke to a product manager. She told me she would need proof of what was happening so I sent her pictures. Two days later she called me and told me they would repair it. So call AppleCare and tell them you're having a corrosion issue with your computer. Tell them you don't wear jewelry, hand lotion, and clean the computer following the tips found on the website.
