Q: iPad 2 screen frozen can not swipe screen to the password screen

MY second series iPad screen is frozen. it gets daily updates everyday. I can not swipe to get to the next screen to but in the password. I trie to turn off the power and when I get to the screen to swipe the power off, I can not swipe it to shut down. How can I fix this problem?
