I administer 350 iMacs for a school system. Resetting the SMC has never worked even one time for me on at least a dozen machines. They end up going unused or they're shelved in a closet.

Please explain how you are doing the SMC reset and also sometimes it takes 2-3 times to work.

My mid 2011 needed a temperature sensor added when I changed to a larger one, the OEM drive has the sensor built in...
