Q: Disk Utility stuck on "Shrinking File System"?

I am using OS X Yosemite, having Macintosh HD on MacBook Air 13 inch. My Drive has 49 Gb left and I wanted to partition it to 30 GB. I got to 33 Gb and clicked on partition process and it's stuck on Shrinking File system.

What do I do now? Am I in trouble?

Please Help me.

How long has it been 'stuck'?

Sometimes progress bars report progress very badly. You have to leave it a reasonable amount of time before you try to abandon it.

I would try to leave it for several hours at the least, possibly overnight. It will need to rearrange files to make sure they fit into the new sized partitions.
