Q: apple tv has wi-fi but neither iMac nor iPhone can find it

Hi,

I have a Apple tv 3rd gen. and all of a sudden my iMac (end 2013) nor my iPhones (both 6) can not find it anymore.

It connected to the same network. it has wifi, i can see youtube etc, but I can not find it on airplay anywhere.

I have the latest OS X, the latest iOs and the Apple tv software says it's uptodate.

I have set the Apple tv back to factory settings and connected again yet still no device can find it.

I don't understand. I tried every thing that I saw in all posts but nothing seems to help.

Any one??  help please!!!

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Is AirPlay enabled on the ATV? What happens if you wake up ATV after waking the phone or computer? Is ATV directly connected to WiFi from the router, or are you using a repeater or access point? From what you say, I assume that you do not see Apple TV in the AirPlay menus on the other devices, correct? That means that, when ATV publishes its services, the other devices don't receive the multicast messages making the announcement. Have you made any changes to your router/network configuration?

Thanks for replying Diana. Yes airplay is enabled on the ATV. If I wake ATV after phone or computer the same happens (nothing). ATV is directly  connected to the same Wifi network as my other devices. I do not see atv in any of the airplay menus on iPhone or iMac. no I did not make any changes other then resetting atv to factory settings after it disappeared on all my devices from the airplay menus. I don't have a clue anymore. Yet I can see trailers, youtube, abc news, etc on my atv and it says software is uptodate and wifi is working correct.

Sounds like you've covered the bases. Have you tried restarting the router? And, of course, power cycling the ATV?

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

    1. Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    2. Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    3. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    4. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    5. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    6. Restart your mobile device.
