magic mouse keeps disconnecting

Ever since I updated OS to 10.11.5, (iMac Retina-1 year old hardware) my magic mouse keeps disconnecting in the middle of my work - fresh batteries installed. And, when my computer sleeps, it doesn't wake up. Just freezes. Any thoughts?

The clue is with your comment "Fresh batteries installed". Once you have upgraded to 10.11 El Capitan, there is a mouse specially designed for that OS. It's not actually spoken out loud but the box for the Magic Mouse 2 has a definite statement of being for OS 10.11( +). Since the OS's are forever going higher, it may be sensible to buy the new mouse because all subsequent OS's will need the facilities of this new creature. The old mice will work to a degree, but not, it appears, 100%.
