iPad price reduction

I currently have an iPad 3. Actually my original one died and I got a refurbished one for 99.00 since it was thought the battery died.

Best Buy just had a 48 hour sale offering $125.00 off of a new 9.7 iPad Pro which is a great deal. I can't help but wonder if Apple is going to be releasing a refreshed model in September. I ordered a new iPad after my current one went into a software loop and needed a reset wondering if I should just trade it in and get an updated model. I have not yet picked up the new iPad.

Thoughts? Do you think Apple is up to something allowing Best Buy to offer such a great price? I'm thinking IOS 10 will really slow down the iPad 3 but don't want to get an "old" model right from the start.

Speculation on the forum is prohibited by rules. As far as whether Apple is releasing any new iPads, no one here would know that if or until Apple makes an announcement.

Best Buy's decision to lower prices is their decision, just like other big box retailers such as Target and Walmart, authorized retailers for Apple merchandise, when they are interested in moving stagnant stock.

You will have to make your decision based on what information you have today.

Apple cannot allow or prevent Best Buy from having any Sale or modifying the prices of the products they sell. They are completely independent companies. All Best Buy does is buy stock from Apple at Apple's Prices. beyond that they can do whatever they want with it.

If they are having a sale they may need to get rid of stock. Only they know why they are having a sale.

As to what Apple may do, we are not allowed to speculate about it here.

But given Apple's anual release schedule, I would say it's likely the iPad Mini and iPad Pro 12" may get new versions in September. While the 9.7" Pro might not since it's only been out for a few months at this point. But no way to know either way.

You can use Google to find all of the iPad release dates and make your own educated guess. If I were a guessing man, not a betting man, I would think that sometime in the fall would be a great time to release any new tech product since the holiday gift giving season will be approaching. What Apple decides to do, is anybody's guess.

I Know that Best Buy offers some great pricing that Apple doesn't offer. I have purchased almost all of my iPads from BB and 4 of my last 5 of my Macs. All but one of the Macs came at a reduced price and one of the iPads was on sale as well. If you are interested in Apple Care+, you can still purchase that coverage even if you but the iPad at BB.

I also like to accumulate rewards points at Best Buy which add up to $ certificates which can be put toward the purchase of anything at the store, including Apple products.
