Q: Powerbook G4 printer problems

I have a powerbook G4 OX 10.4.11 that was printing fine via an Epson Stylus NX420.  One day last week the Epson printer was gone from my printer list.   I attempted to re-add the printer through the dialog boxes in the System Preferences/Print & Fax.  I know that the cables and the usb ports are fine because computer detects that it is connected to the printer.  In the "printer Browser" dialog box, the Espon Stylus Printer appears.  When I click on it, the name of the printer appears at the bottom of the box as well as the Location (my computer).  But it acts as if it doesn't have a driver loaded.  I attempted to load the driver again, with out any luck.  I also purchased a Canon printer that it compatible with Powerbook's Tiger OS 10.4.11.   I downloaded the printer driver for that printer as well, and attempted to add that printer via System Preferences/Print & Fax but it made no difference.  The computer will recognize that it's connected to the printer but doesn't act as if the driver is loaded and won't add the printer to the printer list.  Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

You seem to have done good troubleshooting. It may be you missed something.

Read this top to bottom and see if you did an adequate job.

    Hi musickl,

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your printer. As ChitlinsCC already said, try the Apple Support page and see if there's any useful information there. There's also one other thing you could try:

First, make sure all Finder windows are closed. Now, go to the Finder and click "Go to Folder" in the Go menu. Then type this:

    /Library/Printers

Now copy everything in this window to a folder on your desktop. Make sure you have a copy of all these folders and files before you continue to the next step. Now that you have backup of these files, move the originals to the trash. I have tested this on my iBook G4 and your computer will still work just find after this. Now find the drivers for your printers online and install them (or install them from a disc, if you have one). Now try using your printers. If they still don't work, tell me and then I can tell you how to revery everything back to the way it was.

    Hope this helps,
