PDA

Hello,

Is PDA sync a valid subject for this forum ?

If not, please direct me, I am having GREAT difficulty Syncing my Palm TX with my new MacBook.

I called Customer service (I purchased an apple care plan) they tried to help... passed me to an uber-tec, and eventualy told me the problem was the Palm...

So I called Palm tec support, and after another long phone session they told me the problem was the MacBook...

This kind of thing had happened to me before with Windowz, and I realized that I was "on my own" for a solution...
I did my homework, and purchased the "Missing Sync" 3rd party app.

This got my Palm TX to Sync with my MacBook... TWICE.

But now they again refuse to make a connection...
Am I the -only- one having trouble trying to sync a Palm to a Mac??

I need to find someone who has DONE this Palm to MacBook sync, and can cut through the tec run around/blame game, and give me REAL information about what works, before I spend more time/$$ on this problem.

Do I go back to Apple Care, Do I talk to Palm, or continue working with The Missing Sync ??

PLEASE help,

Brian RN

Thanks,

It did help ... a little.

Actually, this is where I started, and I was able to finally get my Palm TX to sync via BlueTooth, with my new MacBook ...
(they would swap files, but the MacBook would not 'see' the Palm)

This situation suggested poor software to me, so I purchased the "Missing Sync" app. These folks were helpfull, and I found the forum you suggested.

I have un-installed, and re-set selections to the suggested ones, twice now.

But the sync remains undependable.
To me his situation suggests software AND hardware incompatability ishues...

Unless I have just missed something obvious, or have been extreemly "lucky" 😉

Thanks for your reply,

I double checked...

no security settings enabled.

BlueTooth is paired but wil not sync.

Do you know how can I be sure there is a virtual port available for the sync?
(earlier fault messages said the port was in use by other apps)

Hi Thresa,

I am scheduling an appointment with a Mac Geek (Genious 😉 for later this week, in Austin.

I will be glad to share whatever I may uncover...
You can contact me directly at HerbsNurse@Gmail.com, as I only post here when prompted by the system...

When I went in to buy my MacBook, I asked pointedly if my TX would SYNC with the MacBook. I was assured that it would, but when the salesman tried to demonstrate that on the floor demo model... only the BlueTooth file transfer worked...

Then the salesman went into the back (tec area) and spoke with one of the other people on his "team"... He came back out, downloaded a file from the web, installed that file on the demo MacBook, and in 5min. my TX and the display MacBook were syncing smoothly... then he answered some more of my questions, and I went home.
(I returned in 10 days, and bought 2 MacBooks, neither of which will sync)

I am hoping that I can set up an appointment with the misterious (back room) Tech and find out exactly what (patch??) was downloaded
(and duplicate it on -my- MacBooks)

Regards,

Hi Thresa,

Sorry for the delay, I was busy helping with my elderly Mother-in-Law.

Apple has dumped me...The "Genius" at the Mac Genius bar was NO HELP...

A nice guy, I think he honestly tried to help... but he seemed to think that Apple was NOT responsible for interfacing with PDA's
(we agreed that my best bet was to wait for iPhone 😉

I think that if Apple says OS X works with PDA's...(and Apple does say that)...
then Apple is obliged to assist with the interface...

I dont think that I am asking for anything SPECIAL, I just want my Mac to sync with my Palm ... as advertised...!!
----------------

I am unable to build a "virtual serial port", using the wizard...
I get to the box designed for this on my MacBook, but everything usefull is greyed out.

Also, the BlueTooth says there are no useable applications on my PDA...

I can get Wi-Fi to connect with the Palm TX, but cant figure out how to transfer files...

I am compleetly LOST
ANYONE out there have a solution ??
----------------

I wrote to the folks at "missing sync" but I am unable to follow the instructions

... they told me...

"There is no other application that uses the port. The Mac is not releasing the port in a normal matter. This is why we have such an extreme-geeky way of forcing the Mac to let go and get the bluetooth back up again.

You can recreate the whole connection. Delete what is already set up in the bluetooth preference panel.

Reset PRAM
Shut down your computer, as soon as you start your computer press and hold command-option-P-R keys simultaneously until you hear the chime start up sound 3 times. Then let go of the keys.

Using the "bluetooth set up assistant" like you did the first time around.

But with the TX you will get better sync speed and range with the Wi-Fi sync compare to the slow bluetooth protocol.

I wish I had something better to propose but I don't."

Okay, forget anything Apple, Palm, or Mark/Space has told you. We're going to make this work:

1. Go into bluetooth preferences and remove the T|X from the list. Delete it, make it gone.
2. Go into Missing sync for Palm and remove the T|X from there also. Warning; if it is the only listed device you will have to create a non-existing device first. MS will not allow you to have zero devices listed. I created one named 'fake' for the purposes of testing.
3. Make sure your T|X is set up in the hotsync.prc application correctly:
A: Local should be selected above the big hotsync button
B: Click the list under the big button and select 'Edit Connections…'
C: Click 'New'
D: Give it a name, set 'Connect to' to PC, set 'Via' to Bluetooth
E: Under 'Device' Click 'Tap to find'
F: Click the BT icon on your mac and turn on 'Discoverable'
G: Select the Macbook in the list and hit okay.
H: Hit Okay, and Done to get back to the main hotsync page
I: Make sure the connection you just created is selected under the big hotsync button
4. Now hit the hotsync button. If you didn't get a pairing dialog when you found the connection, you will get it now, just pick an easy to remember string of numbers to type into both the Mac and the Palm.
5. You should be hotsyncing.

Let me know how it goes, and give me details on any step that fails or that doesn't make sense to you. Sorry to be terse, but I've got a teeball game to get to in a hurry. 😉
