So you used iTunes and shut down your computer. You bought a new iPhone. You put it on the desk next to you, unconnected. You started iTunes again and your library was completely blank? What does that have to do with the iPhone at all? You then tried connecting the iPhone and everything was still blank?
I think you need to back off and take it one step at a time. Put the iPhone back in its box. Start your computer and start iTunes. What do you see?
