Try a Forced Restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15 seconds until the Apple logo appears. You will not lose anything.

I have held down both the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 20 seconds. Nothing happens. I connected the iPad to the PC. After a while, the Apple logo appears, but stays that way and later disappears after about a minute. When I repeat the Home and Wake/Sleep simultaneous pressing for another 20 seconds, nothing happens for more than 10 minutes. After that, the apple logo appears and again, nothing I do solves the problem.

Before now, I could use the iPad for several hours without any problem. I have never had any problem with it

    Sorry to hear.

    Try Recovery Mode:

Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes.

While your device is connected, force restart it: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, and don't release when you see the Apple logo.

Keep holding until you see the recovery mode screen and wait for it to restore.

You may have to do the above more than once as recovery mode is difficult to get into.

Restore as New first and test it. Then restore from backup if desired. If the backup is corrupted it will likely bring back the issue.

If the above steps do not help, you may have to take it to an Apple Store for testing.
