Please post the URL of your feed: posting its contents doesn't enable me to diagnose the problem, though for a start off you have no 'itunes:...' tags and thus no 'itunes:image' tag, which will get you rejected - however that wouldn't cause the 'can't read your feed' error.

I realized it was missing required tags and I have a file with these added but clueless as to what to do with it as it should be supplied by my site if I understand any of this correctly. (Which I probably do not.) Any help is appreciated as I began this process weeks ago and keep hitting trouble at every turn.

Your feed has no 'enclosure' tags, containing the URLs of your playable media, as required by iTunes. Consequently it sees the feed as empty, as it does not display episodes with no playable media. Indeed you don't seem to reference any playable media in your feed.

Your blog page, referenced in the 'link' tag, has a couple of embedded MP3 players and download links of the MP3 files, but these have not made it into the feed. Make sure that Squarespace is creating a podcast feed, not a simple blog feed (which is what this in effect is). There may be a separate podcast feed, or you may have to take some action to create one - I'm afraid I can't advise on how to use Squarespace.
