Q: Change Messages "Delete Conversation…" keyboard shortcut not add a second shortcut

How can I change Messages "Delete Conversation…" keyboard shortcut without adding a second shortcut?

I added a new App shortcut correctly via Keyboard Preferences, and the result is a second menu item called "Delete Conversation" not "Delete Conversation…" no matter what combination I try to enter for the menu item.

I've tried entering the following for the menu item name, all with the same result of adding a second item without the ellipsis:

  • Delete Conversation
  • Delete Conversation...
  • Delete Conversation…
  • File->Delete Conversation
  • File->Delete Conversation...
  • File->Delete Conversation…

When I enter no periods or ellipsis on an entry, there is a new shortcut with the original shortcut unchanged. When I do enter either periods or ellipsis for an entry, my new shortcut is created and the original is changed to require ⌥⌘⌫ rather than the default ⌘⌫.

Anyone know how to completely remove the keyboard shortcut to the File->Delete Conversation… item OR change that keyboard shortcut, rather than have a second entry or the latter behavior where it adds ⌥?

    hi,

    Removing the Keystrokes from a Menu item is not something I have attempted.

    I have created a Keystroke for something in Messages.

    Adding a Hyper Link used to have a Keystroke back in it's iChat days.

    You can only add such a Short Cut (Keystrokes) if the Menu item is in the app.

    This means only Menu item without Keystrokes can be added.

    I am not sure that you can change the Keystrokes of one that exists already.

    Often they are a System wide linked function (CMD + K is adding a Link in most apps, Save and Print are always there).
