Q: iTunes did not detect my photo library placed in external hard drive

Hi,

I have recently transferred my photo library from my iMac to an external hard drive (which is OS X Extended (journaled)). However when I am in iTunes (ver 12.4.2.4) and try to sync photos to my iPhone, (Copy photos from...) i cannot choose the folder "Photos Library 2.photoslibrary". Because of this I have no photos to sync from .

I appreciate if anyone can help me with this as I am not an expert in this matter.

Hello, the problem can be in the older version of iTunes. Try to update it Get the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support

I have upgraded my iTunes to the latest version. (ver 12.4.2.4) . Is there a newer one?

You don't sync from iTunes using the photos library.

The "library" is an archive of your photos and it not directly readable by iTunes.

Have you considered using the iCloud Photo Library to sync to your phone? This is built right in to the Photos system and is perhaps a better option for you.

Hi,
Thank you for the advice. I have did what you have asked. However I noticed the photos that I can synced are only those photos existed before I transfer the photo library to my external hard drive. I have no sight of the photos or videos that I have uploaded after I had transfer the photos to the external hard drive.

You probably had multiple libraries and are importing into a different one - hold down the option key while launching Photos and check each libary in the select library window - you should find the correct library with your new photos
