Q: Garage Band Updates

I've been unable to complete updates to Garage Band after replacing the HD on my 2007 iMac 24.  Running El Capitan.  All other iLife apps update fine... Suggestions?

GarageBand '09, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), iMac (24-inch Mid 2007)

Which version of GarageBand are you trying to update? And what happens when you try?

    v 10.0.1

The message says: "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID.  This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."

I am the only owner of this computer.  All the other iLife apps update just fine.

GB 10.0.1 is no longer iLife, and it is not an update to the last iLife version of GarageBand, it is a paid upgrade.  But if you already have GarageBand 10.0.1 installed, you should be able to update it to 10.1.2.

Does GarageBand 10 still show in your Purchase History?  Look at the fourth tab of the App Store, Purchases.  GarageBand 10 should be showing there, or you are currently signed in with a different AppleID than you used when you first purchased the Upgrade to GarageBand 10.

Is GarageBand 10 in your Purchase history?

It doesn't show under purchases.  I've never had another Apple ID.

Check, if your purchase is hidden:   https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202320

How did you originally install GarageBand 10?  Since it is only available from the App Store you must have purchased it, maybe for free.

I've never had another Apple ID.

Did you move to a different country? Then the purchases made in a different country will no longer show, if you updated your AppleID.

View hidden purchases is not an option on my account page, so I guess it's not there.  I have never left the country.  Garage Band has been on my computer for as long as I can remember.  Everything else updates and completes, but Garage Band stops at the verification point.

And just to be clear - GarageBand  10.0.1 is you currently installed version?

I'm a bit concerned, because the error message you are quoting is typical for trying to update GarageBand '11 or '09, versions purchased on installer DVDs, not App Store versions like GarageBand 10.

The message says: "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID.  This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."

If your current version is GarageBand 6.0.5 or older and not GarageBand 10, and you are trying to upgrade to GarageBand 10, purchase it from the main AppStore tab.

Ahhh... now I recall purchasing the '09 update family pack.  Most likely it was connected to another (ex) family member's account.  I'll try to track that down and see if that is the problem.  I'll let you know if that works.

    Thanks.

That explains it then.  But you need GarageBand 10 to be installed, to be able to update to garageBand 10.12 for free.
