Will the new Siri Apple TV remote work on older Apple TVs ( I lost the original remote).

Will the new Siri Remote work with older versions of the Apple TV. I lost the remote for my older 2nd generation Apple TV and wondered if the new remote would work or would I need to buy an older version remote.
