Q: No sound from video's in Itunes (Windows 10)

I updated to the latest Itunes yesterday and have had a host of problems from the store not showing content full screen to crashing randomly.

I rented a video yesterday and have not been able to watch it as no sound wilplay from the video, so I checked in the store and tried playing trailers from films listed and the picture is fine, but there is no sound. I opened the windows volume mixer to see if there was any audio levels coming from Itunes and maybe it was a routing issue in windows, but there are no audio levels at all. Yet, if I play music in Itunes it works fine. Previous version of Itunes was operational with no issues, but this version is buggy and I've wasted 2 days so far trying to resolve the issues.

System:

Intel I7 4GB

32GB Ram

Nvidia 980TI Graphics Card

Windows 10 Professional

Can someone please sort these issues out?

I can play videos in windows media and get sound, all other applications work fine so it's not a driver issue.

Best

    Mike..

Could be a problem with the movie itself.

You can report an issue with iTunes content >   Get help with an item purchased from the iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBooks Store - Apple Support

Nope it's all video content within Itunes as my previous message stated. I tried playing trailers and other video content in Itunes and I get no sound, but I can play music fine in itunes.

    Hi,

Try this i had the same problem as you since the update on windows 10. Start your movie or show or anything and where you select the language and subtitles (lower right) there is a new option on by default that  is checked called prefer Ac3 passthrough...turn it off. I had to reinstall itunes to make it appear in the options then i ticked it off and issue fixed, i went through that with an apple support guy and that is what we found.

I think the latest update added this by default.

Thanks but that didn't work either.

I've just updated the latest Itunes, in the hope that it fixed the issue, but still the same. I'm playing audio right now through itunes in my music playlist perfectly fine, but when ever I try a video no sound plays, there is no levels showing on the windows mixer - nothing except picture. I rented two movies recently I couldn't even watch them and all Apple did was let me download them again, but that doesn't fix the issue.

I can't hear any audio from videos played through Itunes. I can only hear audio from music I play in itunes.

Note: All other software plays video and audio perfectly fine, this is an itunes issue that started with 12.4.3 and still not working with 12.4.3.1

    Apple are you listening?

I have the same issue!!! However my husband does not and our machine are identical!  it is very frustrating and I have spent hours trying to figure this out, there must be a setting somewhere in iTunes we can find.

Try Edit > Preferences > Playback > Play Audio Using and change the setting. If that hasn't helped set it back to where it was and try once more. Otherwise see the second box in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates and see if a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes helps. Note the recommendations to disable antivirus when reinstalling iTunes and to run the installer as the administrator.

Thanks for the reply Turingtest2, however none of this works. I have dont it twice now. I have sound on everything in itunes BUT movies. there must be a hidden setting somewhere. Oh well.. maybe the next update will fix it.

Have you performed a tear down as described, or simply reinstalled iTunes?

If you have a 64-bit system have you tried installing the "for older video cards" version?

Do you have QuickTime installed? You shoudn't need it, but if you do it only works properly with 32-bit iTunes or the "for older video cards" version.

There is one more menu option I could find that might impact on video playback: Controls > Audio & Subtitles > Prefer AC3 Passthrough.

You could also take a look at Fix unexpected quits or launch issues in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support. Does the issue occur in a different user account or if you launch iTunes in its own safe mode?
