Q: Sseking method (or app) to sort photos and movies by size in Photos

I know I have some large movies in there, possibly taken by my little son (e.g., in slow motion), but I can't find any way to sort the photos and movies by size (or search for them by size) so I can get rid of the largest files. Anyone have a solution?

(Boy, Apple seems to have really limited functionality of this Photos app; I find it frustrating to use on several levels in terms of flexibility.)

In Photos for Mac is no feature to sort by size.

If you want more sorting features, give PowerPhotos a try. It can show ou the contents of your Photos Library with meta data displayed below the thumbnails, i.e. the size, or as a table in column view. And you can arrange the photo by the columns and sort by the size.

Here is an example of how the Videos album from your Photos library might look like, when browse the library in Power Photos, sorted by the size column:

Thanks, as always, Léonie. But it does seem really sad that I have to spend $30.00 to overcome the lack ofa  very basic feature in a new Apple program. Perhaps they are planning to add this functionality in a future release? I do not have $30 more to spend at this point, having just purchased other software AND a new hard drive to help me ease the load on this computer, which had "filled up."

Have you tried if the free trial of Power Photos can do this? I cannot check, because I purchased the app.

If you previously purchased iPhoto Library Manager, you may be entitled to a free copy of Power Photos.

. Perhaps they are planning to add this functionality in a future release?

I don't know Apple's plans, sorry. And if I did, I would not be entitled to post them here.

tell Apple your thoughts - http://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

However in the database world of Photos size is not a simple thing - you by size of the original photo, by size of the current version, by size of the version in iCloud, by size of the version on your Mac, by total size of all versions, etc - it is not a simple question

Just so we're on the same page what do you mean by size - the image size (in pixels) or the file size (in Mbs or Kbs)?

Those are two entirely different things.  The FREE version of PowerPHotos can sort by file size as léonie has already pointed out.

However, there are not too many consumer DAM (digital asset management) apps that will sort by image size. There is one app, Lyn, that can sort by either file size or image size.

There's also a professional app, Media Pro that can sort by file size, image size,  height or width.
