"webplugin" does not support the highest level of security for safari plug-ins

Yesterday night I successful connected to my Svat security system using Safari and left the computer on with the browser displaying all the security cameras. Early in the morning at about 3 or 4 AM I was awaken by the computer rebooting I noticed that the OS was updated.

Right now I'm trying to connect to my security system and Safari can't access the server. I went into properties and noticed the ["webplugin" does not support the highest level of security for safari plug-ins] My security system quit working a long time in windows because of plugins so my only option is to use my mac-mini to access the system and now this happens.

The plugin name from the security system is called HiDVRPlugin.dmg and the system is Svat. I tried going into Safari's preferences and allowing the plugin but it still doesn't work.

Any ideas on how to re enable or fix this plugin?

Yes, I was thinking about that but I've never done an update roll back before besides I understand that this update fixes some serious security issues.

I have an old PC with windowsXP and the security camera system works fine in that computer maybe I can use virtualbox and run a copy of XP or an earlier version of OSX and install the security system there.

Just out of curiosity how do I roll back the update?

I have exactly this problem as well. Don't know what DVR system you're using, but I'm on a Swann DVR2600-4. I contacted Swann support today and after they tried to get it to work by reinstalling the HiDVRPluging.dmg package, they finally said that the older DVR wasn't compatible with El Capitan. I impressed upon them that it worked up until 10.11.6, recently upgraded last Friday, and they said it wasn't compatible with that build. Sounded like a cop-out to me . Downgrading to say 10.11.5, which worked(!) is an option, but I'm not at all confident in doing that. I wonder if it is not a compatibility issue with HiDVRPlugin per se, rather a bug/issue with Safari. Why else would it stop working on a minor build update (10.11.5-10.11.6)? I can also say that I'm reticent to attempt a downgrade to 10.11.5, because I don't want to lose anything.

Of course, if I were to report this to Apple, likely as not, I'd be pointed back t the system vendor. Have to admit (albeit not specifically an Apple issue, rather an MS Office issue), I've personally discovered major bugs in the update to MS O365 for Mac in the past 6 months, that cause basic features of Excel, perhaps not widely used) broke and stopped working. As a result I have stopped upgrading my O365 😟.

I can confirm it's definitely a Safari OSx as I run a VMWare Win7 virtual machine on my Mac and IE works.

Mine is a cheap 8 camera SVAT CV301-8CH DVR. I lost PC (windows 7) functionality a long time ago after numerous zero-day IE vulnerabilities showed up in the wild. I guess mickeysoft's fix was just to block and forget about the plugin, same thing for the Chinese manufacturer that want to sell me the newer models.

I was looking at the new NVR (IP based) models Lorex, Swan etc but the prices are too high for me ($1500~$2000 for 8 cameras) so instead of OS downgrading my mac-mini I installed virtualbox and created a winXP virtual drive. I don't like the idea of running WinXP but it is the cheapest and safest (for my mac) solution, let's face it an upgraded plugin from the manufacturer is out of the question and Apple... well it's Apple 🙂

I hear what you're saying. I actually run a VMWare Win7 virtual machine and yes it works fine in that. It's just a little frustrating that Apple make these wholesale changes apparently removing backward compatibility.

I dont even think Swann is concerned about this. The support a just tried to reinstall HIDVRPlugin and when that didnt work they said El Capitan was incompatible yet it's been working just fine until the 10.11.6 update last week. And of course Apple don't let you easily back out changes.

I agree but eventually all things have a limited life... like you said very frustrating and the worst part is that we had no warning of the changes. At first I thought the security camera system broke until I recalled the computer rebooting at 4AM.

On another note I found that in my appstore purchased items I have OSX Lion and Mountain Lion listed so I downloaded the installation files again (all 9+Gigs) and made a mountain lion virtual machine, the web client is working fine under mountain lion too 🙂

I have this issue too and when I enabled the Developer tools in Safari I could see lots of errors stating the scripts had been blocked. As a result of a security fix in Safari 9.1.2 it appears that Apple automatically sandboxes any pages that come over HTTP/0.9 and as a result blocks the scripts. This stops the Swann DVR webclient.html page from rendering in the browser. Rolling back to an earlier version of Safari would expose me to the cross-site scripting attack this is designed to prevent, which I don't want. If anyone at Apple knows how you can add sites to by-pass this security check so that I could add my Swann DVR IP address to an exception list and access my DVR it would be great. Changing the Swann web client HTML would require a firmware update to the DVR box I think.
