One option for syncing many things (e.g., contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, iCloud Photo Library, files in iCloud Drive, etc) is via iCloud. To do that:
On the Mac: Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > select items to be synced
On the iPhone: Settings > iCloud > select items to be synced
