Q: Recover photos from iphone knowing the passcode

Hi,

I will try to keep it breif.

1. My Iphone 4s got a broken screen

2. I did not used for 1 month (aprox)

3. After replacing the screen the date was reset to 1 Jan 1970

4. The phone is disabled "try again in 24.000.000 minutes"

Quick facts.

- I do know the passcode

- I've tried disconnecting the battery - same date

- There is no Sync with iTunes (got a new computer)

- I do have the old computer ID in Apple/Lockdown

- I did try an update and it worked (I now have IOS 9.3), but it's still locked

- I've tried inserting/removing different SIMs and reseting (hard/soft)

Is there a way to either fix the clock and/or recover my photos & recordings ? I have some that I really care about and I am willing to spend a reasonable amount to get them.

Many thanks.

Alex

If you changed the date to May 1970 or earlier and can’t restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If you truly have iOS 9.3, this issue should have been resolved.

    What is Apple/Lockdown?

How did you update a locked phone?

There seems to be some facts missing. Which "lock" are you referring to?

    Thank you for your reply.

    > If you changed the date to May 1970 or earlier and can’t restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

I did followed those steps (this is how I have upgraded)

I am not 100% sure that the upgrade was ok, but the screen changed. On the previous version (8.3 I think) the locked screen also contained "Searching..." - network, the ability to do an emergency call and the current date. Now it's a black screen with only "iPhone is disabled - try again in 24.000.000 minutes"

There was a progress bar on the phone while doing the upgrade that went all the way

    > If you truly have iOS 9.3, this issue should have been resolved.

Please see above. Keep in mind that the Date was NOT set manually and it was probably caused by an empty battery.

    > What is Apple/Lockdown?

from what I have read is where iTunes (on windows) stores the computer ID. I was hopping to get iTunes to get in the iPhone without me having to "hit" the Trust (because I can't)

    > How did you update a locked phone?

from iTunes with the phone in "itunes mode" (not DFU), using the UPDATE option.

    > Which "lock" are you referring to?

By LOCK i mean disabled (not to be confused with "C:\ProgramData\Apple\Lockdown" - see comments above)

Maybe I should try to "update" again.

    Many thanks.

I am still a bit confused.

What I think you are facing is a lost/forgotten passcode, although you have said "I do know the passcode"

This is what would disable the device. It also sounds like your screen is still not functional. If so, your options are extremely limited.

Let's bottom line this though... if you do not have an iTunes or iCloud backup, or have not been syncing with iCloud, your data is lost already. Any step now to get back in to the phone involves erasing it in some way.

If you have been disconnecting the battery, which it sounds like you have, you have also voided any ability to have Apple repair the phone.

I have added in the title "knowing the passcode". I do know it, but I can only input it after 24.000.000 minutes, fun.

    The phone is disabled.

I will try another update maybe it will fix the clock.

    Thanks for the help.

To conclude, from a technical point of view, can an Apple rep. either fix the clock or extract the data (again I do know the passcode).

    Thanks.

    As said, no.

Sorry, knowing the passcode is of little to no value if you can't enter it.

The entire purpose of the passcode is for the situation you are in. To prevent others from extracting your data.

When you face this situation, you do what you can to reset the phone and move on. This is what backups are for. If you don't have one, your chances of getting your data are likely zero.

It's impossible to know if the 24 million minutes is a thing or not. Likely not.

    Something is clearly messed up.
