Q: Correct way to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10 in bootcamp?
Hi
I have a 2016 Macbook m5 and have installed Window 8.1 using the bootcamp assistant. I now want to upgrade to Windows 10 and have run the Microsoft Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor tool. This ran for about 90 minutes and when the upgrade got to 100% it rebooted to a blue failure screen saying something like "missing device" and then prompting me to boot back into windows 8.1.
I don't have a serial key for Windows 10 (only have one for 8.1) so can't install directly from a Windows 10 image on USB.
Please can someone advise on the correct process?
Thanks
Rich

OK, so after the 190+ updates were installed I re-ran the upgrade tool. Once again "Something went wrong" and I got an error 0xc7700112. Googling turned up some fruitless 'fixes', but eventually I found http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/0xc7700112-wi ndows-10-update/2d9c34de-2876-40e9-a835-7ace256ea294
If you go here and scroll down to 'T-G's post from July 24th entitled 'Remove Windows Setup entries from the boot configuration data file' you'll find a command line fix using bcdedit that worked for me.
Once I'd completed the /delete steps and rebooted I tried the upgrade tool again and this time it worked. Windows 10 is now running on my Macbook.
