Q: Macbook pro crashed, HARD

Hi,

My macbook pro has crashed. I attempted disk utility and it failed. I cannot safe boot as when I try it goes to panic mode and I have to do a hard shutdown to stop the restart cycle. My last time machine back up is too far gone to be too much use at the moment. I attempted fsck (single user) boot and about half way through it stops and goes to panic mode in which I also have to hard shut down to break the cycle of restarting. What else can I do? Anyone else have this problem?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Which exact model of MBP do you have? A lot of models from the 2010-2012 periode develop issues with the graphics processor. For instance these: https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/

I cannot check the exact model as I can't do anything with the computer. It was however, purchased in 2010.
The link you added says the affected models are from 2011 onwards so I don't think it is the graphics processor.
Do you have any other ideas?

The model number is printed on the bottom of the Macbook too.

If it indeed is a 2010 model, the message is even worse: MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) intermittent black screen or loss of video Quality Program has ended - Apple Support
