Trouble with Airplay Audio when using with speakers

I have been using an Apple TV with Airplay to play YouTube videos on a projector. I also have a set of speakers that I am plugging my laptop into. Though the speakers work very well when I am not using AirPlay, I can barely hear anything when I use Airplay with the speakers. Is there a way of switching off the AirPlay audio and using just the speakers?
