Q: Replace User Folder?
I had a hard drive fail and then went through two days of Time Machine **** (restore failed over and over) before finally giving up and manually moving over my backed up data (ugh).
I moved over my user folder, but it's not being recognized in System Preferences (Users & Groups), just the new one (different name) that I created when installing a fresh copy of El Capitan (old user folder is from El Capitan as well).
I don't want to create a new user with the same name as my old username in fear of it being erased (tons of data that took forever to copy over).
Anyone have experience with this situation?
Any tips would be very appreciated - almost three days of no productivity...I've gotta get back up and running!
Thank you in advance,
Rick...

The simplest way is to create a new user account of any name, and drag the contents of your old user folder – subfolder by subfolder – into the new one. As lined out in OS X: Manually migrating data from another Mac - Apple Support
