Q: I can find my Seagate drive

I seem to be having trouble with my seagate hard drive. I looked in Disk Utility and the drive won't show up there either. There is no place where I can find my Seagate drive on my Mac '2014 Retina Pro, 10.10.3'. It happened when I accidentally unplugged the cable and I got the error message saying that I didn't properly eject the disk. So I replugged the disk back in all the way and nothing showed up. Over the next week I plugged and unplugged several times but nothing ever showed up or happened. The device's light goes on and I can feel it working. I really need help, I have a lot of important files in that hard drive.

Launch/Utilities/Terminal and copy & paste this command at the prompt:

    diskutil list

    Press return.

If it sees the disk, note the number of the disk (far left column) you want to mount.

    Then, enter this command:

    mount /dev/(number of disk)

Put in the number no parenthesis.

    Press Return.

    Also might try

    mount force /dev/(number of disk)

    Assuming an external drive:

    - Is the drive self-powered, that only powered by the USB bus? If so it could be that the USB port does not provided enough power. You can try a powered USB hub. You can also get a USB pigtail that takes power from to USB ports to the single USB port on the drive like this one.

    - Does it show in Disk Utility?
    - Does it show in System Profiler under USB (assuming USB connected) ? You should see the chipset in the enclosure as well as the HD itself

    - Does it work on another computer?

    - Do other drives work when connected the same way

Could be a failed drive or the electrons I the drive enclosure failed. You can try removing the drive from its enclosure and using a known-good enclosure or dock
