"Lost" Lock Screen Notifications

It's my fault I know but opening my iPhone (SE) with a fingerprint is very convenient. However, I've got into the habit of pressing the Home Screen button with a registered finger to turn it on. This works fine but recently, a few times I've seen a notification flash past, far too quickly for me to see which app it's from let alone read it! Is there any way to bring back these notifications to see if they're important?
