Preloading Media onto an iPad

Is there a way to pre-load media files (PDFs, Videos, Images,) onto an iPad that does not require the device to be activated?

We are looking at giving away a number of iPads to our customers and would like to have them loaded with company information for the recipients. We don't want to hand them over with pre-setup accounts. We would rather the user creates/uses their own account but when they sign in the content is available for them.

Once upon a time this was an option but I don't know how you would do it today.

You could create an app. And put everything to download on there. iPad would have to be preloaded though. The question you are asking is not possible at the current time. Get in contact with Apple, see if they can give you some iPads at a little extra price but will have content loaded on it.

Thanks for the quick response and it is along the lines I was thinking. So you would setup the device "anonymously". You would:

  • Skip the touch ID
  • Skip the passcode (or set up one)
  • Setup as a new device
  • Choose "Don't have an Apple ID or forgot it."
  • Skip Siri
  • And now you have an iDevice that doesn't have a user account, can't access the app store, iTunes, iCloud and no messaging.

For the recipient, you can always add an account and that would allow access to everything that was skipped. This is where what next comes in?

How would you load your media? How would it be visible to users?

(I understand if someone does a reset the media will be wiped which isn't the end of the world for us.)

1) You could install some app to display your media. You could load all the files into the app.

2) Another option would be to convert your files to book format.

You could clone this device. you could restore the clone to all the devices you wish.

Lot's of cloning options here. haven't a clue which one to recommend.
