Q: What does this code mean on my MBAir 2012: 4BAT/6/40000005:ox898F7790

MBAir i7 late 2012 does not work off of the Battery. Dies instantly. Works with power cord only. Battery shows fully charged. Battery Health shows it as Good. 5979 mAh out of 6700.

Ran test phase and got this code: 4BAT/6/40000005:ox898F7790

What does this mean? Will a New Battery solve the problem?

Or does it mean something else?

Thanks

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

    That error code indicates a problem with the battery.  Your best option is to make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.  They should be able to determine if the MBA requires a new battery or if there is an internal connection problem.

    Ciao.

    Addendum:  Try a SMC reset:

    This is what I thought. I have reset the SMC, and even did a PRAM zap. I have ordered a new battery. This is out of warranty by 7 months. I did learn one other thing from another link on Apples site - that it is not recommended to leave the power cord hooked to the MBAir while using but rather use the battery power more than the corded power. I use about 50 / 50 power cord and battery. I don't know if that has anything to do with this battery suddenly going bonkers. It started yesterday by the battery being very slow to take a charge.

    Thanks for the help

    Try checking your battery with the utility, called Battery Health which is available at Mac App Store for free if it's really dead.

    There is no factual basis for that premise.  There are two rules that you should follow in regards to battery usage;

    If you are using the MBA under AC power all the time, at least once per month use it under battery power to about the 40% charge level and then reconnect to AC.  Lithium ion batteries need periodic 'exercise' in order to ensure a long operating life.

    Discharging the battery totally will shorten its useful life.

    I suspect that your problem lies with your battery.  The best source is Apple and only NuPower and Anker so far have proven to be acceptable third party alternatives.  Bargain batteries as found on ebay should be avoided because there are too many counterfeit knockoffs or simply poorly made ones that will cost you more in the long run.

    Ciao.
