MacPro 4,1 won't start in any mode, not with recovery disk, not with disk warrior 5

TThis afternoon my MacPro 4,1 froze and I had to hold the start button down to restart. When it restarted, the boot progress bar stopped at about 67% and went no farther. In Safe mode, the bar gets to about 90% and stops. I tried booting from os 11 and is 9 recovery disks; no luck. I tried booting from my disk warrior 5 thumb drive; same thing...progress bar stops at about 67%. I am out of ideas...this very reliable machine will not boot. any ideas appreciated.

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11), 2.66 GHz Intel QC Xeon. 20 GB RAM
