Q: mail accounts (and messages) disappeared

Can I use Time Machine to restore the mail accounts and get the messages back in the separate accounts?

All my messages from 3 mail accounts disappeared. When I looked at the Mail>Preferences>Accounts it is blank.

I was able to find all the messages on my TimeMachine, but this just created a new folder "Time Machine" with the missing messages.

There was no crash. One minute the messages were there and then they disappeared. Any idea what could cause this??

MacBook Pro (17-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4), Quad i7.

    Hi rcc,

If you are missing email accounts on your device and see them in your Time Machine backup folder, you most certainly can restore them to try and recover the accounts along with the messages. To determine how this occurred maybe difficult without some troubleshooting involved, however, updating OS X to the latest version resolves many issues. You can find the links below useful to assist you with the steps to restore from your Time Machine and update OS X if necessary.

Update the software on your Mac

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Your emails are very important and these steps should have them recovered quickly.

    Have a great day.
