Uninstall Spotify from MacBook Pro???

I accidentally installed Spotify on my MacBook Pro. Do not want this app. I have tried following the instructions that Spotify tells you to do but when I get to the part where it says to Delete, when I hit the Delete button nothing happens. I have been reading about just dragging the file to the trash but does that actually uninstall the app? Please can anyone help me. I want this app off NOW.

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

drag the file to the trash.

but you may also want to check check two other places:

>System Preferences>Users & Groups

unlock the panel if it is locked with your administrative credentials then go to your account and click startup items

remove any spotify startup items

and check

Macintosh HD/Library/StartupItems

yep, tried this. but when i tried deleting it nothing happened. all it did was go from blue to a grey color. the only thing i could do was drag and trash. still not sure if i got rid of it completely. i have followed all directions from spotify on uninstalling their app but it would not delete. just trashed it. does that remove it? still not sure.
