How do I get scroll bars in photos? I am using el capitan

I cannot scroll through my photos accurately. I find this programme really hard to operate compared to iPhoto. Where can I determine the size of my photos as a size not a ratio? Thank you

Sorry I should have said that i have it set to always. I am totally stumped. It is not the only issue I have with this new computer. I have never had any other computer system except Mac from my first computer over 20 years ago but I'm ready to get rid of this computer and go over to the other side. I have no end of hassles but when I go to get support they tell me there is nothing wrong ( yet they say my problems are unusual and it takes them ages to correct them) Please help me with this. I waste so much time and I can't keep wasting it.

When I use the arrows it jumps on the initial use then works smoothly. As i have 1000's of photos on it which I'm trying to organise and sort it is really frustrating that i can't scroll up accurately.

There have been no arrows on the scrollbars in OS X since OS X version 10.7. Lion.

The only thing you can do with scroll bars now is to click into the bar to advance to the point you click or to advance one page, depending on your setting.

If you have thousands of photos, scrolling is not an ideal way of searching. If you can't locate the photos you are looking for using an album structure or the search feature then you can change the moments view to a collections view or years view which allows you to move through far more photos more quickly.

You can change between moments, collections and years using the arrows at the top left of your window.

Maybe I'm just trying to cling to the way I know but I'm often looking for individual photos or scanned photos that aren't dated for the event. I guess that may be the best way but each event can also have sometimes 1000 photos at a time and I'm also noticing that the photos I imported from my phone ( a samsung my only break from apple) aren't actually in date order. Thank you for your help.

I'm also noticing that the photos I imported from my phone ( a samsung my only break from apple) aren't actually in date order.

I assume the samsung phone is able to add the date correctly, therefore I wonder if you aren't looking in the wrong areas if you see your photos in the wrong order.

"All Photos" keeps photos in the order they were added, whereas "Photos" keeps them in the order they were taken. If you are looking in individual albums they will be listed according to what is selected at View > Sort.
